“Por la Plena y Otros Asuntos”

Los Pleneros de la 21's latest album, “Por la Plena y Otros Asuntos” (Truth Revolution Records) was recently named Best Release by Prensa sin Censura.

Featuring an all star community of masterful musicians, singers, and dancers from both New York City and Puerto Rico, “Por La Plena y Otros Asuntos” is a heart-felt ode to this Puerto Rican traditional expression–La Plena–as conceived, curated, and orchestrated by Los Pleneros de la 21’s founder, ‘Juango’ Juan J. Gutiérrez Rodríguez. In Juango’s own words: “This album is a reflection of the individual and collective memories and lived experiences of Los Pleneros de la 21—emissaries and troubadours of la Plena and Puerto Rican cultural expressions…strengthening our bond, solidarity, and our unbreakable commitment to each other and our song.”

This monumental collective of artists in both plena and bomba will bring the album to life in SPRING 2026 in a multi-city tour.

Los Pleneros de la 21 is honored and excited to participate in the American Folklife Center 2024 Community Collections Grant program funded by The Library of Congress

LP21's collaborating artists will lead this project to document current practices in Bomba and Plena, and the individuals and events who have influenced Bomba and Plena in NYC and connected communities over time.
