In 1983 a group of friends, pleneros and Boricuas got together in La Casita de Chema, to sing and jam out to the music and songs of their patria…surrounded by the jardines of El Rincón Criollo, Los Pleneros de la 21 was born.
35 years later, Los Pleneros de la 21 has grown into an intergenerational ensemble of master bomberos and pleneros, and luminary musicians. For over three decades, they’ve toured all over the globe, sharing the music, cultura and passion of Puerto Rico to audiences of all walks of life; have offered countless community programs and events both in their backyard and abroad. In 2017, After a Grammy Nomination, a National Heritage Award, and 4 albums, and through the support of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, LP21 got together to unveil a new face to the group and presented several performances citywide…leading up to a concert at Pregones Theater – the backdrop of LIVE at PREGONES – Los Pleneros’ latest album.
Los Pleneros de la 21 and Truth Revolution Records were joined by a capacity crowd for a special sit-down performance at Pregones Theater commemorating the upcoming album release, and offering a look into “New York’s Bomba and Plena Ambassadors to the World’s” incomparable history and memories.
The concert culminated in a drinks and hors d’oeuvres (aka piscolabis), a meet-and-greet with the LP21 familia, where guests had plenty of opportunities to take a piece of the LP21 culture and legacy home with them.
This event was part of the Los Pleneros de la 21: 35 años en el Patio series, and is made possible in part with support from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA).
