Los Pleneros de la 21 have offered the Bomba and Plena Children's Workshop for 10 years. Children from all over New Yrk City have enjoyed themselves while learning about this wonderful tradition.

Children are taught Plena and Bomba percussion, keeping time playing the Cuá and Güiro, learn song structure and vocal lessons signing the traditional sonés and seis of the Bomba and the news paper like lyrics of the Plena. They also learn the traditional dances of both music forms. Improvisation and theatrical skills are emphasized. Traditional values are taught through the lessons found in the history of the tradition.

Children get to incorporate modern sounds fom hip-hop and dance music creating their own works of art as well produce plays based on traditional mythology along with stroies they create.

At the end of each semester program participants are graduated in a ceremony where they perform live everything that they have learned. Plena and Bomba
