KICK OFF YOUR PUERTO RICAN DAY PARADE ACTIVITIES WITH YOUR FAMILY SURROUNDED BY COMMUNITY, MUSIC, ART, SONG, DANCE AND EXCITING CELEBRATIONS! Every June, LP21 culminates its year-long Bomba and Plena Community Workshops (BPCW) with a dynamic performance presentation provided by the youth and children students of the program that not only showcases their talents learned throughout the year, but also reaffirms our community expressions in the next generation of artists, cultural arts practitioners and Latinos. This year, the program’s 22ND Graduating class, brings to the stage a unique presentation original and traditional Bomba and Plena songs performed to dynamic choreographies, endearing dances and charismatic vocalizations. Performances also include an exciting Carnival procession featuring colorful costumes and beautiful masks—fashioned by the Workshops’ students under the guidance of master Visual artist, Sandra Bell—that will transport audiences to Puerto Rico, displaying animals, themes and environments unique to the island! For the 2nd year in a row, the year-end celebration will also feature a special presentation provided by members and participants of LP21’s popular Adult Workshops, featuring original compositions, arrangements and dances. Together with our youth ensemble – including children from 2 to 17 years old – this complete student-led and student-driven ensemble highlights the full scope of the diverse and rich talented pool of NYC communities. All songs are performed and led by the student ensemble of children ranging from ages 2 to 17 years old. Accompanied by BPCW instructors’, master bomba and plena practitioners – Juan Manuel Usera, Obanilú Allende Solana, and Nelson “Mateo” González,– as well as select members of the LP21 performing ensemble and students’ parents, this final celebration rejoices Puerto Rican traditions in true family style! We invite you to join your family with ours, in an event you are guaranteed to enjoy! |
